Year 6 To 7 Transition
Offers will be made by Surrey County Council for admission to Christ's College in September 2023 on the 1st March 2023. Click here for more information about admissions to Christ's College and the appeals process.
We want our students to feel ready, prepared, and confident to join Year 7 at Christ's College. We have strong partnerships with our local primary schools, to ensure curriculum and pastoral continuity.
We have a dedicated transition team lead by an Assistant Principal including the Progress Leader for Year 7, SENDCo and Home School Link Worker. We work together with our local primary schools to ensure a smooth transition for students from Primary to Secondary School. This includes speaking to every Year 6 teacher, family and child during the summer term before joining Christ's College to ensure we understand each student before placing them in their new classes.
During the summer term, we also visit each student in their primary school so that they can ask questions of what it will be like to be a Christ's College student. Likewise, in the autumn term, the Year 6 teachers are invited to visit Christ's College to see how their former students have settled into College life.
At the beginning of July, all Year 6 students are invited to an Induction Day to start learning about how they will become successful Christ's College students. They are introduced to their new class and start to make new friends, take a tour of the school and meet some of their new teachers so they can begin to understand how they will achieve their best.
For parents, we hold an Information Evening on the same day as the main Induction Day for students. This starts an important relationship between the school and home. Students are encouraged to attend with their families, and there is an opportunity to take part in a more informal question and answer session.
For students who may be more anxious about the move to secondary school, we run further opportunities, such as SEN sessions, or bespoke school tours with a senior leader, to help them settle and feel more confident.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Christ's College community.
