Year 6 To 7 Transition
Offers will be made by Surrey County Council for admission to Christ's College in September 2021 on the 1st March 2021. Click here for more information about admissions to Christ's College and the appeals process.
We want our students to feel ready, prepared, and confident to join Year 7 at Christ's College. We have strong partnerships with our local primary schools, to ensure curriculum and pastoral continuity.
We have a dedicated transition team lead by an Assistant Principal including the Progress Leader for Year 7, SENCO and Home School Link Worker. We work together with our local primary schools to ensure a smooth transition for students from Primary to Secondary School. This includes speaking to every Year 6 teacher, family and child during the summer term before joining Christ's College to ensure we understand each student before placing them in their new classes.
During the summer term, we also visit each student in their primary school so that they can ask questions of what it will be like to be a Christ's College student. Likewise, in the autumn term, the Year 6 teachers are invited to visit Christ's College to see how their former students have settled into College life.
At the beginning of July, all Year 6 students are invited to an Induction Day to start learning about how they will become successful Christ's College students. They are introduced to their new class and start to make new friends, take a tour of the school and meet some of their new teachers so they can begin to understand how they will achieve their best.
For parents, we hold an Information Evening on the same day as the main Induction Day for students. This starts an important relationship between the school and home. Students are encouraged to attend with their families, and there is an opportunity to take part in a more informal question and answer session.
For students who may be more anxious about the move to secondary school, we run further opportunities, such as SEN sessions, or bespoke school tours with a senior leader, to help them settle and feel more confident.
Due to Covid-19, the Year 6 transition process last year followed a more bespoke pattern, with very small group tours available together with information sharing on the website, parent zoom meetings and individual calls home. Our intention would be to provide a similar transition process should national/local restrictions still be in place.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Christ's College community.

SUMMER TRANSITION CAMP
Monday 9th - Friday 13th August 2021
We will be are running a Summer Transition Camp for all our new Year 7 students who will be joining us in September. The Summer Camp will be an ideal opportunity for your child to meet other students and to become familiar with their new secondary school teachers.
The camp is free of charge for all students however you will need to register online or complete a registration form. The Summer Camp will run at the school from Monday 9th August to Friday 13th August, each day from 9.00am - 3.00pm and will focus on Mathematics, English, Sports and drama. Lunch and drinks will be provided free to the students throughout the camp and there will also be a free day trip to London Zoo on the Thursday - Covid permitting. On the Friday all parents/guardians will be invited for a picnic lunch followed by a Sports Day afternoon and graduation.
Students will be given stationery including a scientific calculator, a drawstring bag, notebooks, literacy/numeracy resources and a Kindle to keep (on the basis that they have a 100% attendance and punctuality record every day that the camp runs).
We really think that the Camp will help our new students settle into their secondary school. This year, we will be working with Teachus Camps to provide the Summer Camp: if you wish your child to participate, we will need to share your contact details with them so that they can contact you. We will provide further information about the Summer Camp on our Zoom meeting on Tuesday 8th June.
Registration will close on Sunday 13th June
