Charlton Cup - Handball

On Thursday 9th November, the second round of the Charlton Cup commenced. Last year saw the Sixth Formers storm to a 31-10 victory. This year there was a difference which was the arrival of Mr Lewis. Having played at a much higher standard than any of the Sixth Formers the difference in skill was clear. After going 3-0 down the Sixth Formers battled back to 7-6 up by half time.

After half time a string of goals from the Staff pulled them ahead again. A swift recovery from the Sixth Form made it an equal 10-10. A goal to note came from Miss Czuprynski as it curved passed the keeper to make it 11-10 to the Staff.

A late surge from the Sixth Formers meant that the game was finely poised at 12-11 to the Sixth Formers with just minutes to go. The staff went on a late attack putting together a string of passes that left Mr Scutt with a clear shot. The shot went in and it was now level at 12-12 or was it? The umpire judged that he had stepped into the D which is an offensive foul. The goal was disallowed and the Sixth Formers broke quickly, attacking the goal bringing the game to 13-12.

After some fast play the Sixth Formers scored again, intercepting the ball quickly after the restart. With just seconds left the Staff scored bringing their score to 13-13. The final whistle blew with a victory for the Sixth Form with a full time score of Sixth Formers 14-13 Staff.
