Football Association - A Game Of Our Own Programme
Earlier this term, The Football Association launched the Game of Our Own Programme. They have a vision to give every girl equal access to football in school by 2024, and get more girls excited about and playing football. As part of the programme, we were asked to select up to 12 football activators, their job is to market and help deliver girls football as an extra-curricular opportunity and help to raise participation levels.
At the beginning of May students took part in the live launch event with the Youth Sports Trust, which included past England footballers such as Rachel Yankey and Sue Smith, and have taken part in a series of workshops to help girls grow in confidence and take on leadership roles, empowering them to design, create and deliver football activities to their peers.
The 12 girls who have been selected will be developing their leadership, teamwork and communication skills in order to become inspiring role models.
During the last week of term 9 of the girls visited Northmead Junior School to run some fun football sessions for pupils, putting into action all that they had been learning and hopefully inspiring more girls to take part in football.
