Students Receive Certificate Of Achievement For Bronze DofE Awards

Congratulations to three students in Year 10, Matthew, Jimena and Oliver who were presented with their Certificate of Achievement by Mr Grundy for completing the Volunteering, Physical, and Skills sections of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

Taking part in the Award programme isn't easy and requires commitment over time.  A Bronze DofE programme has four sections that students need to complete: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition.  Participants must commit to a minimum of three months activity for each of the Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections, and plan, train for and do a two-day, one-night Expedition.

Summary of what they did:

  Volunteering Skills Physical
Matthew Helping with 1st Stoughton Beavers. He is continuing to volunteer here for his Silver award. Warhammer - building and painting miniatures  Swimming
Jimena Supporting primary children with reading and homework in an after-school setting Creating a book review blog Walking
Oliver Helping an elderly neighbour Designing and building rockets Cross-country running

Mr Cunningham said:

"Here are three young people who will have no trouble answering the questions "What did you do with your time in lock down?"  I am particularly pleased with the ways they found to meet the needs of the local community despite some of the restrictions that there have been over the course of the last year.  I love the broad range of activities that they have chosen to pursue.  It has been my privilege to see the reports written by their assessors for each section and to read about how they have persevered, grown in confidence, and developed new skills.

The Certificate of Achievement is presented to those who have not yet been able to complete the expedition section because of coronavirus restrictions, but who have met all the other requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.  Once they have completed their expedition (which we hope to do soon) they will receive their full Bronze Award.

I know that we have many other students who have been putting their time to good use and I hope to be presenting more Certificates of Achievement soon."
