The Uniform Page

Christ's College is very strict on uniform – more strict than most other schools. We strongly believe in maintaining a College uniform and we encourage learners to take pride in their appearance.

All learners from Year Seven to Year Eleven must wear the College uniform listed below but note that the regulation skirt and jumper are being phased in for Years 8-11. ALL new learners in any year group must wear this uniform from September 2012 and ALL learners from September 2013. As the cardigan is a new item for the uniform, only the new regulation cardigan will be allowed in all year groups from September 2012:

Black College Blazer: Black lining and College badge
College tie: to be worn by boys and any girls who choose to wear the standard collar shirt.
Mid-blue shirt: standard collar (boys) open collar(girls) Light blue shirts are NOT permitted. We are trialling short sleeved shirts for girls and boys for the Summer term 2012. A limited quantity of shirts will be available from Unismart around Easter 2012. If successful, we will have a full range of sizes available from Easter 2013. ‘Short-sleeved shirts and blouses will be available in the last week of April; please ring the Unismart Cobham shop to place an advance order'
Black formal trousers: (Boys and Girls) Trousers must not be split or decorated in anyway.
College regulation black formal skirt: one style, available from Unismart. No other styles are permitted.
College black V-neck jumper OR black cardigan: With blue accent at neck line. (Optional). Available from Unismart by July 2012. No other styles are permitted

All of the above are available from the College Supplier and the tie can also be purchased from the College Finance Office. Please be aware that you are strongly advised to use the College supplier where possible as items bought from other suppliers may not be suitable and would need to be replaced.

Black socks : Plain with NO patterns.
Black or Natural Tights : Plain with NO patterns. Footless tights and leggings are NOT permitted.
Black shoes : Trainers, trainer style, stiletto heels, heels above 5cm, mules, open toe, open sling-back, reinforced toe shoes or fabric shoes are NOT permitted.

All learners should use a simple, sturdy bag or case large enough to carry books, games kit and any other necessary equipment.

Notes:

  • Blazer must be worn at all times. (In hot weather the teacher may decide that blazers can be removed.)

  • Tie must be worn with standard collar.

  • Outdoor wear should be plain, simple and smart. It is strongly advised that it is shower resistant and should not be made of expensive fabric such as leather. Outdoor wear must not be worn in the College buildings.

  • Denim or denim-like material is not permitted in any form.

The following are key health and safety rules:

- Learners may wear a watch, one plain ring, a simple fine cross and chain and one pair of small studs, one in each ear.

- facial jewellery or other body piercing is not permitted;

- make-up is permitted from Year 8 but it must be discrete – in this respect the decision of the Year Learning Manager is final;

- extreme hairstyles or hair colouring are not permitted, especially any that identify the wearer with particular groups; long hair must be tied back in all practical lessons. (Items worn for purposes of recognised religious observance are permitted.)
